After the May 2026 election made Reform UK the largest single group on Burnley Borough Council, the group has chosen its leadership team.
Cllr Mark Poulton, who represents Briercliffe, was elected leader of the Reform UK group, with Cllr Gavin Theaker (Cliviger with Worsthorne) as deputy group leader. Cllr Liam Thomson (Rosegrove with Lowerhouse) serves as the group’s whip. The appointments were made at a group meeting at Burnley Town Hall.
Reform UK won 11 of the 15 seats contested in May to become the largest group on the 45-seat council. No party has overall control, and the council continues to be run by an Independent-led administration, so Reform’s job is the job of the largest opposition group: to scrutinise the administration, push for value for money, and stand up for residents across Burnley and Padiham.
